Drugs and Alcohol
Support, facts and general
information

Drug, alcohol and tobacco use are growing concerns in the LGBTQ
community. Dealing with coming out and homophobia on top of the
other daily issues most people face cause many to turn to drugs
both legal and illegal.

UHS Health Promotion Center
University Health Services' Health Promotion Resource Center is a
resource for students both on and off campus. Through this
department, UT offers confidential, educational consultations,
provides speakers for student groups, provides consultation for
health-relation program planning, conducts workshops, and supplies
information about health issues pertinent to college students. Call
475-8252 for more information, or drop by SSB 1.106.

UHS Alcohol and Drug Education Program
The Alcohol and Drug Education Program (ADEP) operates from the
basic belief that students can effectively influence the attitudes and
behaviors of other students in positive ways. Call 475-8252, or
drop by SSB 1.106 for more information.

gayhealth.com : Drugs
Legal drugs: Alcohol, tobacco, Valium, Viagra. All perfectly legal
and all abused, particularly in the LGBTQ community. Information on
illegal drugs: there are still quite a few members of our community
that engage in recreational drug use. We advise strongly against
experimentation with illegal drugs, but if you are going to take drugs,
there are some things you need to know.

National Clearing House for Substance Abuse
"Research tells us that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
people are more likely to smoke, drink, and use other drugs, than
our non-lgbt peers. We're less likely to abstain and more likely to
continue heavy drinking into later life. Does this mean that we have
higher rates of addiction and other serious substance abuse
problems? Who knows? As an oppressed and often invisible
population, we don't even know how many of us there really are,
much less what percentage of us fall into any category."

Housing and Roommates

LGBTQ and LGBTQ-friendly
roommates, landlords, resources

Finding an LGBTQ or LGBTQ-friendly roommate or landlord is an
important hunt. If you live in campus housing, you might be
concerned about rooming with someone who could potentially be
homophobic or not supportive. If you ever have problems with a
roommate, see your Resident Advisor (RA) immediately. If the
problem is severe, your RA will move the problem roommate to a
different room. After all, the problem is the roommate's, not yours.
